It is official! Ale is good for women.

Do you think downing an ice cold beer after work is a boys-only pastime? Think again, because those in the know, say that it’s good for you! Here are five reasons why…

It makes you clever. Yes it does, and I wouldn’t lie to you.

Moderate beer drinking has been linked to healthy brain function. In recent research, it was discovered that women who drink two alcohol drinks a day scored higher on a cognitive functioning test than those who had less to drink.

Your heart loves it

Studies have shown that moderate consumption of alcohol such as ale can lower your chance of having a heart attack by 40 to 60%. That’s MODERATE intake girls, not throwing 20 schooners down your throat after a stressful day with the hubby.

It hydrates you

Forget the dry mouth and fuzzy head that a glass of wine gives you; research now claims that ale hydrates you more than water! This is apparently because it contains bubbles, which helps the body absorb liquid more easily. Go figure!

It lowers cholesterol

Lots of us girls flinch at the bitter flavour of beer (and the rank smell that our boyfriends/hubbies breathe on us after a trip to the local tavern.  Oh the stories I could tell you about Luc and his ale breath, but that is another topic entirely), but this is only because of the hops in it. Hops are a source of polyphenols, believed to help fight cancer, strengthen your immune system and lower bad cholesterol.

It’s good for your bones

The dwarven brewmaster brains in Orzammar recently discovered that most common beers contain silicon, which can help strengthen bones. Pale Ales are the most likely to help bone density, reducing the risk of osteopenia and osteoporosis.  They are now working on a new blend of Ale for their own local taverns.
